Pursuit of a Woman

One evening Sanford has dinner at the Yacht Club with his friend, and sometimes sailing companion, Bob Saunders, and his wife Carroll. They had just returned from a vacation in Hawai'i and were happy to relate their experiences and pass on their love for the islands. This sparked interest and curiosity on Sanford's part, so much so, and with a little encouragement from Bob and Carroll, he decides to take a much-needed vacation and chooses Honolulu and the beach at Waikiki as a destination. His secretary, Diane, makes a reservation for him at the prestigious Royal Hawaiian Hotel, right on the beach. Sanford reads about and asks Diane to book a side trip to Hilo, on the big island of Hawai'i. He wants to charter a helicopter to view the Kilauea volcano. It is an interesting trip that includes some site seeing in the community of Hilo as well. Later in the day, Sanford returns to the airport terminal building to await departure of his flight back to Honolulu. While seated in the waiting room, his eyes fall upon a very attractive woman playing with two small children several aisles away from him. At first, he thinks the children are hers. Later it becomes apparent that they belong to passengers seated near her. He is so overwhelmed with her beauty that he is unable to take his eyes off her even to a point that he does not realize she is now staring back at him, with a puzzled look on her face. Finally sensing the moment, he drops his face in his hand as perhaps a little boy might do having been caught in the act. Sanford is clearly embarrassed.

The boarding announcement comes and Sanford notices that the lady is boarding the same flight. Although he does not locate her on the plane, he has pleasant thoughts of her during the flight back to Honolulu. After landing, Sanford goes directly to baggage claim B, on the lower level of the terminal building. While standing near the conveyer system to recover an item he purchased in Hilo, he has a strange feeling that he is being watched. Turning around he sees that same woman, now standing near the open exit, smiling at him. It was a captivating moment, but Sanford is paralyzed at the very sight of her. People pass back and forth in front of him as he stands there. She waits for a time, then turn and walks into the afternoon sunshine.

About the Author
Milton Turner is the author of Pursuit of a Woman, his first book. He was born in Milton, Massachusetts and educated in Public Schools graduating from Milton High School in1951. Having joined the U. S. Naval Reserve, he was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict and served the remained of a four-year enlistment aboard the USS Newman K. Perry DDR 883, one of the navies many destroyers. Milton was honorably discharged from the Navy at Naval Base, Newport, Rhode Island in 1954 and was awarded the American Defense and European Occupation Metals. Returning to civilian life, Milton graduated from Burdett College in Boston, Massachusetts in 1957. Milton relocated from the Boston area to San Diego in the early 1970's.

Milton was befriended by a local couple, in Honolulu, Hawaii who allowed annual visits to their home for weeks at a time, while the couple were on vacations. This experience provided much intimate knowledge of the Hawaiian Islands that proved invaluable in writing this book.
