When a strange darkness appears with no explanation, Linnea's life is thrown into chaos. The newfound peace and sense of normalcy that she'd found at Gran's cottage is suddenly threatened, and no one else knows what to do. The fate of the forest rests in her hands. 

Linnea and her brother aren't warriors in the traditional sense, but they've both found their fated paths. Nathaniel is learning to fight and protect others like their late father, and Linnea is learning to heal woodland creatures like their mother who disappeared years ago. Their methods are different, but they both have the same goal - to protect the forest that has become their home. Unfortunately, that task proves challenging when a mysterious darkness threatens the safety of the entire forest.

Unlike anything they've seen before, not even the mages at the Academy can figure out what the darkness is. Every theory leads to a dead end, and before long, the stress starts to affect them all. The only guidance Linnea can find comes from her mother's old journals. The only problem is that no one else believes the strange, magical stories that her mother wrote about. While she doesn't fully understand them either, Linnea has a strong suspicion that her mother's disappearance is related to the darkness. When things in the forest take a turn for the worse and they still have no answers, Linnea feels like she's the only one who can fight the darkness.

Darkness in the Forest is the first book in the Wilder Warriors Series - a young adult fantasy series that follows the journey of a teenage girl and her younger brother as they enter the world of magic and ancient creatures in hopes of finding their lost mother. From Linnea's point of view, you learn about her world's elemental-based magic system, meet new friends from the Mage's Academy, discover some of the secrets behind her mother's disappearance, and face some unexpected, life-altering events.

Brittany Groussman is a fantasy author from Lilburn, GA. She lives with her husband, service dog, two cats, and two turtles on family land that neighbors her parents. She and her husband coach the fencing teams at their alma mater, Brookwood High School, and its feeder middle schools. Brittany has been writing short stories and working on various writing projects since she was ten years old, and she spent three years on the writing staff for Georgia’s online Girl Scout magazine (the Lime Green Giraffe). When she isn’t writing, she enjoys video gaming, playing Dungeons & Dragons, learning to cook new recipes, and sailing with her family. She has a great love of nature that was nurtured through her decade in Girls Scouts, which was spent adventuring through the Chattahoochee National Forest, canoeing in the Okefenokee Swamp, camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and going on two big trips to Seattle and Iceland. She is proud to present her debut novel, Darkness in the Forest, which is the start of her three-part Wilder Warriors Series.
