Awakenings

Sarah Sweeney and Hayley Baxter are incredulous when they literally bump into each other among the tens of thousands of protesters at the Wisconsin State Capital. Sarah has neither heard from Hayley nor seen her since Hayley moved to New York City and a journalism career eleven years ago.

Hayley offers to share her hotel room in Madison on weekends. With misgivings, Sarah takes her up on it and quickly realizes her once fierce love for Hayley still simmers under the surface of her anger.

When the protests move to the next stage--collecting signatures for recall--the weekends in Madison end. Sarah goes back to teaching, certain that Hayley will never leave her roommate and job in New York.

However, the bad economy causes Hayley's newspaper to go belly-up and she is forced to return to Wisconsin, to the lake where it all began...
